From Shopify Liquid to Headless Commerce
Showmine transformed Le Marais from a traditional Shopify Liquid storefront into a more flexible headless commerce experience, combining modern frontend architecture with SEO and CRO optimization.
Le Marais is a premium women's fashion boutique based in Maastricht, Netherlands, offering a curated selection of clothing, shoes, accessories, and premium fashion brands. The project combined Shopify's commerce infrastructure with a more flexible frontend architecture, allowing the storefront experience to be customized beyond the limitations of a traditional Shopify Liquid theme.

“We transformed the storefront architecture while keeping Shopify at the core of commerce — then used the flexibility of headless to build a better, more search-friendly and conversion-focused customer experience.”
Le Marais already enjoyed an established, loyal clientele and a bustling physical boutique in the heart of Maastricht. However, a traditional Shopify Liquid theme placed constraints on how rich editorial layouts, dynamic multi-brand lookbooks, and custom checkout paths could be delivered.
Showmine operated as a technical commerce partner rather than simply a theme development shop. We engineered a decoupled frontend that leverages the Shopify Storefront API for commerce logic, while giving the presentation layer freedom to deliver rapid transitions, bespoke editorial merchandising, structured SEO, and streamlined checkout journeys.
Demonstrating that architecture, search visibility, UX, and conversion strategy work best when unified under a single cohesive digital foundation.
Le Marais already had an established Shopify commerce operation, but the storefront required a more flexible and scalable frontend experience. The goal was to move beyond a traditional Shopify Liquid storefront while continuing to use Shopify as the underlying commerce platform.
Transitioning away from Shopify Liquid's rigid theme architecture to an agile headless presentation layer without downtime.
Empowering merchandising teams with unrestricted component flexibility, custom editorial layouts, and tailored micro-interactions.
Maintaining Shopify as the secure backbone for orders, tax calculations, payment gateways, customer accounts, and fulfillment.
Seamlessly organizing hundreds of SKUs spanning luxury apparel, designer footwear, handbags, and fine accessories.
Creating rapid multi-facet filtering, intuitive category navigation, and fluid transitions between looks and single items.
Preserving existing organic search equity with exact canonical mappings, technical crawlability, and rich structured data.
Building server-rendered metadata, dynamic sitemaps, clean URL structures, and semantic heading hierarchies from day one.
Addressing hesitation points by prominently highlighting same-day dispatch, personal WhatsApp styling, and easy returns.
Designing a native 'Shop The Look' outfit-based discovery engine that connects complete curated styles to direct checkouts.
Delivering an app-like responsive experience on smartphones with sticky CTAs, drawer filters, and frictionless payment options.
The goal was not simply to rebuild the website. The goal was to create a more flexible commerce foundation while improving the overall customer experience.

Showmine migrated the storefront experience from a traditional Shopify Liquid implementation to a headless commerce architecture. By decoupling the frontend presentation layer from Shopify's template rendering, Le Marais gained complete creative and architectural freedom while continuing to leverage Shopify as the battle-tested commerce engine.
Server-side rendering, sub-second routing, atomic design system.
Product catalog, multi-currency orders, inventory, secure payment gateway.
High-res fashion campaign assets and 'Shop The Look' mapping.
The headless architecture unlocked rich experiential layouts that a standard template could never achieve: curated multi-brand collections, 'Shop The Look' pairings, dynamic promotional announcement bars, and editorial storytelling.

A common risk during headless migrations is sacrificing organic rankings due to client-side rendering gaps or broken URL structures. Showmine treated SEO as a foundational migration pillar rather than an afterthought, ensuring search engine bots receive full server-rendered HTML, canonical parity, and rich structured metadata.
Server-side rendering (SSR) ensuring crawlers index complete page DOMs instantaneously.
Precise URL routing preserving collection hierarchy and preventing duplicate content issues.
Integrated ClothingStore, Product, Offer, and BreadcrumbList JSON-LD schemas.
Next-gen WebP/AVIF compression with descriptive alt text for enhanced visual search visibility.
The CRO work focused on eliminating friction points and cultivating immediate trust at every consideration stage.
Performance was treated as an organic part of the headless and CRO strategy. By eliminating heavy Liquid theme scripts and adopting an optimized component architecture, shoppers experience snappy page transitions, instant search results, and effortless browsing across desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Le Marais carries an extensive catalog spanning women's clothing, footwear, accessories, and premium designer brands. The new architecture supports rich collection browsing, brand collections, variant selections, and editorial merchandising.
Instead of forcing customers to purchase isolated garments in a vacuum, the "Shop The Look" experience presents fully styled outfits:
